Kachchh District, Gujarat
Experience the charm of staying in a round bhunga, with mud walls, mud floor, a mud bed... under a thatch roof; sit out nights by a bonfire, under a wide open sky peppered thick with stars, listening to kachchhi folk music rendered in reedy voices... in a magical getaway at Shaam-e-Sarhad Village Resort, Hodka, an hours ‘ drive from Bhuj.
Shaam-e-Sarhad ('sunset over the border') is a rural resort, hand-crafted by the community of Hodka, consisting of about 600 households scattered through a number of hamlets. The local community staffs and manages the resort to the last detail.
Hodka is perched on the edge of the Rann of Kachchh, a vast, elemental space of clay and salt, and its dusty hamlets are vibrant with life and colour... entrancing the visitor with a wealth of living traditions in embroidery, applique, leather-craft and mud mirror decoration.
