Climate of India
 

India experiences a range of climatic variations across its vast expanse. The coolest weather lasts from December to February, with mornings and evenings are cool and fresh and the days are warm and sunny. From March to May there is a hot weather, when the climate becomes really hot and the days become dry and hot with occasional dust storms. Monsoon rains occur in most of the regions between June and September.

 
Climate of Western Himalayas
 
Srinagar located in Northern India, has the best climate from March to October. However the winters are extremely cold and damp. Nearby places like Pahalgam, Gulmarg usually experience moderate to heavy snowfall during the winter season from December to March. The temperature in Ladakh is extremely cold. The road to Leh is open from June to October.
 
Required clothing: Light clothes from March to October with occasional light woolens depending on temperature. Heavy woolens for winter. Weather can change rapidly in the mountains. It is therefore very important to be suitably equipped.
 
Climate of Northern Plains
 

The northern plains have extreme climatic conditions with the inland regions having hot nights and days during the summer season from April to mid June. However during the winter season, from November to February, the temperature in day is not very hot, while in night time it is very cool. The monsoon season is from June to September.

 
Required clothing: Lightweight cottons in summer with warmer clothes in winter and on cooler evenings. Raincoats and umbrellas during the monsoons
 
Climate of North East
 
From March to June and September to November are the driest and most pleasant periods. The rest of the year there is extremely heavy monsoon rainfall and in this period traveling is avoided.
 
Required clothing: Lightweight cotton clothes. Raincoats and umbrellas are used throughout the year and essentially in monsoons, usually from mid-June to mid-October. Warmer clothes are useful for cooler evenings.
 
Climate of Western India
 

In the western part of India there is a coastal climate because of the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Kutch. The days and night are hot and humid during the summer season. Monsoon season is from July to September. From October onwards, the climate becomes cool and pleasant. In some regions an occasional woolen cloths is required.

 
Required clothing: Lightweight cotton clothes throughout the year with warmer clothes for cooler winters. Raincoats and umbrellas during monsoons.
 
Climate of Central India
 

In the summer season there is hot days and nights whereas during the winter season the days are warm and sunny and nights are very cold. Monsoon season is between July and September.

 

Required clothing: Light clothes from March to October with warmer clothes during evenings, particularly in winter. Raincoats and umbrellas during monsoons.

 
Climate of South East
 

Southeast India has coastal climate because of the Bay of Bengal to the east and the Indian Ocean to the South. The state of Tamil Nadu has warm summers with high humidity and pleasant winters. It experiences northeast monsoon between October and December. The hill stations are cold in winter. Hyderabad is hot, but less humid in summer and much cooler in winter.

 

Required clothing: Light clothes throughout the year. Raincoats and umbrellas during monsoons. Warmer clothes are worn in the winter, particularly in the hills.

 
Climate of South West
 
The climate is most pleasant from November to March. Monsoon rains fall between late April and July. The summers are not as hot as northern regions but the humidity is extreme. The coastal areas experience the cool sea breezes. Inland, Mysore and Bijapur have pleasant climates with relatively low rainfall.
 
Required clothing: Light clothes throughout the year with warmer clothes for cooler evenings, particularly in winter. Raincoats and umbrellas during monsoons.
